Stuck between what is morally right and showing mercy?

Have you ever find yourself in a situation where you had to make a choice about what is morally acceptable and showing mercy? Well, that is the situation I am stuck with today as a corp member lecturing in a tertiary institution. Just in case you are still wondering, I'll give you an example and this affected me terribly. Here's the gist; I have been marking some scripts for the first semester exams just ended and while some students did very well the reverse is the case for some others (you know it's normal in a class right?) but this morning, I had just finished marking this particular script and what's most peculiar about this one is that it's the script of an 'extra year' student. The student didn't write much, the score happened to be 3/60 and as i flipped over the answer booklet, I saw this "Please sir, don't mind whatever I have written, just have mercy on me and do me a favour in the name of your Lord" . I remember walking into that ward on 25 October, 2008 and hearing your "grandma (God bless her soul)" telling me "Charles, she looks like you". Well I didn't see the resemblance on that very day not because it wasn't obvious but because my mind was clouded with the major thought of "Am I really a daddy?" It's been four amazing years of a call to responsibility, watching you grow, walk and talk. You never seize to amaze me, my lil'angel and though I didn't see it back then, today I'm glad to say I'm grateful to God for giving me the courage to keep you. A Look at Africa’s Nobel Peace Prize Laureates

Ahead of Friday's Nobel Peace Prize announcement, we looked at Africa’s Nobel Peace Prize Laureates. The Nobel Peace Prize, an award for people who do valuable work towards “increasing fraternity between nations” is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The first prize was awarded to Henry Dunant in 1901. African winners were few and far between in the first half of the 20th century, but the continent has started to offer up more winners in recent years. South Africa’s Albert Luthuli was the first African Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1960. At the time Luthuli was the president of the African National Congress (ANC). He was a prominent Anti-Apartheid activist who spent much of his life under movement bans imposed on him by the Apartheid government.
